Lorain mayoral race halted by Ohio Supreme Court ruling

The Ohio Supreme Court ruled the Lorain mayoral race cannot be held and filing deadlines for other city posts will not be reopened, keeping Mayor Alex Olejko in office through 1987. Al Pena elected president of USW Local 1104 in Lorain

Al Pena, a 36 year U S Steel employee, won the Local 1104 presidency Tuesday with 816 votes overturning six candidates. He will take office May 1 with a lineup including Ron Nau as second in command and Dan Nunez as recording secretary amid calls for worker input on concessions.

California Surges in Federal Dollars Leads National Spending

A Census Bureau breakdown shows federal spending in fiscal 1984 totaled $724.7 billion, with California receiving 12.7 percent of dollars for 10.7 percent of the population. Webber proposes bonds to fund Lorain Detention Home expansion
