Butler Rules Interest Must Be Deducted From Debenture Payments

County Prosecutor Howard R Butler submitted an opinion to the county commissioners on $91 000 of debentures paid by the And wur and Depositors Mortgage Loan companies. He says interest must be deducted from the payments and the remainder applied to principal with the balance of interest to be paid at maturity in June 1932. The county auditor will determine the interest amount due as of payment and the general fund will receive its share. The six page letter, prepared with County Auditor C S Kelser and others, outlines the status of frozen funds used to aid banks during a holiday, noting bookkeeping treated debentures as liquid balances. Major Joseph Q Petro is considering the case of John Gutowski after a Sunday arrest for alleged sale of beverages to William Crow.
