A 13-year-old boy fought with a 54-year-old security guard at the South Park Apartments in Elyria early Thursday. The boy choked the guard, then punched him as they struggled, before jumping a fence and fleeing. Police later questioned the boy after his mother alleged mistreatment by the guard.
An Associated Press survey finds that eight Ohio counties with the largest black populations largely have all white election boards. Only Cuyahoga County has a black member. Lucas and Allen counties recently lost theirs. Franklin County had a Hispanic member until February, amid broader controversy over polling locations and voting procedures in a key swing state.
The Columbus Dispatch analysis shows Appalachian Ohio incomes fell 5 percent in 2008 after a 16 percent rise from 2000 to 2007. Gallia and Lawrence counties saw steep declines, while Vinton County residents commute to nearby cities for work as factories close and public jobs shrink.
