Old-Timers Refit Army Snow Sleds With Rawhide Ties
Veteran auto workers at Studebaker joined the Automotive Council for War Production to craft Army sleds for Arctic operations. Old hands replaced bolts with rawhide bindings to allow flexibility, enabling curved runners and quicker assembly. Production crews learned knot tying and used power tools to shape wooden components, cutting assembly time by more than half.
