Relief Levy May Be Submitted To Voters
Elyria Mayor Joseph Q Petro proposes a relief levy of half mil or three fourths mil to go before voters at the May 14 primary. The move aims to cover a projected relief balance depletion by June with expected annual revenue of about 21 000 at half mill or 31 500 at three fourths mil. Council will meet Friday at 7 30 p m to discuss. a resolution to submit may pass at the Monday regular session. The city’s unencumbered relief balance stood at 2781 as of March 31, not counting 1342 from relief bond surpluses awaiting cashed checks pending an audit. The total relief balance could be at least 4123 after adding 1342. There are 70 relief cases affecting 225 people. last month’s relief spend was 2127, with state aid about 700 monthly, leaving a net city cost near 1300 per month.
