Resurrection of the human spirit through acts of charity

The passage urges individuals from merchants to statesmen to rise above self interest and serve others. It envisions social renewal as each person uses wealth, influence, and talent to aid the needy, elevate workers, and expose fools to light. It links renewal to humility and self forgetfulness.

History of Easter name and dating origins

The term Easter traces to the Anglo Saxon goddess Eostre or Ostara. Early church debates between Jewish and Gentile Christians over the resurrection date led to a calendar-based rule: Easter is on the first Sunday after the full moon following the vernal equinox. if the full moon is on a Sunday, Easter shifts to the next Sunday. The authorized Bible uses Easter once, in Acts 12 4, a mistranslation.
