Interior Of Home Destroyed In Elyria Fire
A one story frame house at 2002 Hazlewood St Elyria caught fire yesterday afternoon causing about 2500 in damage. The Nelson Smith family was away when the blaze started near a refrigerator likely from an electrical defect. Twelve Elyria Township volunteers fought the fire for about an hour and a half with all three trucks responding. The utility room kitchen and living room were damaged with windows melted and drapes scorched while furnishings were ruined by heat. The Smiths were later aided by the Sirens auxiliary and the Red Cross. The alarm originated with a home call and was relayed by Ohio Edison Co. to trigger a fire siren. The family nine members had been shopping nearby and were later notified by police. No mutual aid was needed.
