Ohio House tweaks budget with temporary penny tax plan
In Columbus the House committee rewrites the two year budget adding a temporary penny tax to replace proposed permanent increases. It expands taxed services, ties school funding to monthly attendance, and considers slot machines at Ohio race tracks as a tax substitute, with the tax set to end in 2002 if slots are approved. Revenue estimates and possible vetoes shape the debate ahead of floor action.
