Care packages fuel morale for soldiers overseas
Susan Slack, a Columbia, South Carolina cookbook author and mother of Marine pilot Todd Slack, sends overstuffed care packages to troops in the Iraq conflict. She crafts durable treats like chocolate cappuccino biscotti and hazelnut dipping cookies to withstand desert heat, while noting chocolate can melt. Slack, part of the Marine Moms Online network, emphasizes that these packages offer a sense of home and a lifeline through regular email and shared recipes.
