Immunotherapy: Future cancer killer touted by researchers
Boston doctors report early results from interleukin-2 based adoptive immunotherapy aiming to boost the body's natural defenses against cancer. LAK cell therapy showed partial tumor reductions in 22 percent of 106 advanced cancer patients, with several complete remissions, while side effects included vomiting and low blood pressure. The approach remains experimental, with questions on durability, safety, and applicability still unanswered.
