Pace says 8th Army not held back by shortages
Former Army Secretary Frank Pace told a Senate subcommittee that ammunition shortages never prevented the Eighth Army under retired Gen. James A. Van Fleet from carrying out its mission in Korea. He said shortages were limited to reserves and that available supplies were always sufficient. Pace added that Van Fleet’s protests did not reach him, despite claims they were reported to the Pentagon every 10 days.

Train Hits Truck Driver Escapes Serious Injuries
Edward R. Recznik 23 of Lorain said the crash at Murray Ridge road crossing occurred at 10 38 last night. The New York Central locomotive struck the left rear of his sedan delivery truck, sending it into a ditch. He was treated at Elyria Memorial Hospital for abrasions on his right leg and forehead. The engineer said he blew the whistle but the car did not stop as a red embankment and overgrowth limited vision.

Settlement For $80 000 In Fatal Accident
Probate Judge Malcolm Thomson approved an $80 000 settlement in the fatal accident case of Marion Taylor 37 of Vermilion who was killed July 13 1951 in Sheffield Lake when steel plates slid from a Hess Cartage Co truck injuring his motorcycle. The payout to Mrs Taylor and her five children along with attorney fees and expenses ends the US District Court suit.

Truck Crashes Into Corner Shoppe After Child Dart Across Street
A double trailer loaded with 23 tons of bar steel swerved to avoid a three year old boy and smashed into the Corner Shoppe on Cleveland Harwood streets. The truck then forced its way inside the storefront before exiting under its own power. Driver Anthony Tobiash escaped injury and the bakery next door suffered no damage. The boy’s mother had stepped into a nearby store. the child disappeared from view just before the crash.

Negotiating committees for the Lorain County Lumber Coal Dealers and Builders Supply Association and Local 571 of the truck drivers union submitted a revised wage proposal as talks continued to end a strike. The management team offered nine cents per hour raise effective upon return to work, time and one half for overtime after eight hours, two hours showup pay if called to work or four hours if not, under a two year contract through March 1, 1955 with a wage reopening clause, waiver conditions for acts of God.

Two Men Held for Grand Jury in Valley Inn Burglary
Steve Toth and John Bodnar Jr. were bound to the grand jury under $5,000 bonds each after arraignment on charges of breaking and entering the Valley Inn at Gulf Road and Route 254. They admitted stealing a pistol and money last June and a $1540 safe from a side road near Norwalk, then tossed the pistol into the Vermilion River. A farmer’s sighting of their car helped lead to arrest.
