Vitamin Kin Diet Can Stop Hemorrhages Under Skin
A historical note discusses purpura hemorrhagica and suggests vitamin K injections, calcium administration, blood transfusion, and possibly spleen removal. It describes how the spleen’s toxic action destroys platelets, causing bleeding under the skin and mucous membranes, with death possible if uncontrolled. Spleen removal is proposed as a recovery measure in serious cases.
Diet and vitamin K in a Georgia patient with skin hemorrhages
A Georgia woman with hammering leg lesions and fatigue seeks help. The text suggests vitamin K and vitamin E rich foods like alfalfa spinach and greens may aid healing. It notes possible bile and liver issues affecting fat digestion and vitamin formation along with delayed blood clotting due to low prothrombin.
Vitamin K and its medical uses in bleeding disorders
Vitamin K occurs in leafy vegetables and aids blood clotting when enough fat is eaten. Jaundice or liver obstruction can prevent clotting, causing prolonged bleeding. Chemists extract Vitamin K from alfalfa and spinach. it can be injected or taken orally, with Kragamin-Millar given in 3 to 5 cc doses for emergency use. A dried alfalfa meal capsule form provides free salts. Vitamin K helps nose bleeds, lung bleeding, postpartum and uterine hemorrhage, gastric ulcer bleeding, wounds, and other excessive blood loss conditions.
