Rebels plan new assault on Naco stronghold
Reports from Naco Sonora indicate a third rebel offensive is being prepared under General J. G. Escobar to seize Naco. Escobar departs with a 15 car troop train from Juarez to reinforce Topete’s depleted forces after two failed Saturday attacks. Detachments of rebel cavalry and Topete’s train were sighted near Joromina, six miles south of the border. American observers note possible use of lethal gas against the federal garrison, with drums reportedly obtained for air drops. A rebel air raid previously drew fire from a border building on the U S side, drawing a pledge from Topete not to bomb Naco again. US air patrols from Fort Huachuca will survey border towns in a display of force, while General Coheu denies orders for pilots to attack Mexican ships or strike Mexico. In San Antonio, a squadron of U S cavalry from Fort Bliss proceeds to Fort Hachita to safeguard American lives and property from revolutionary incursions.
