House Proposal Restores Local Government Funding
The House rocks to restore portions of proposed budget cuts for counties, cities, villages and townships by trading 4 percent county cuts for consolidation savings. The plan, part of the governor’s push, would keep library cuts and city reductions, while incentivizing shared services and governance consolidation to help balance a multiyear state budget. It targets funding reallocation, with 10 percent reductions reviewed by need and a $10 million infuser for villages and townships. Local leaders argue for restoring home services and judicial work funding amid fiscal pressures.
