Horvitz Still on Stand in Libel Suit
Sam Horvitz testified in a $30,000 libel suit brought against him and David Gibson by Willem J. Peer. He explained loans to the Lorain Journal to secure a “square deal” for the Highway Construction company and participation in Grall’s 1921 mayoral campaign. He acknowledged authorization to contract for the company but insisted the aim was to protect reputation, not to control the Journal. He said loans were not repaid and discussed cognovit notes.
