General Electric to open Avon plant in July

GE will start electrical control panel assembly in Avon in July with about 40 workers to begin. The 20 000 square foot facility, designed by William Unger, will be built by Avon Development Group and leased to GE at Avon Community Industrial Park. Officials expect rapid employment growth and capacity operation by year end.

Park board quits in Lorain city board resigns en masse

Lorain three member park board led by President George Neller resigns at a regular meeting. Petitions from a Southeast Lorain group had sparked criticism of the park system and the council action. Bobby Baker sentenced to 13 years in prison in seven counts

Former Senate aide Robert G. Baker received concurrent sentences of one to three years on seven counts of larceny tax evasion and fraud. His lawyers said they would appeal immediately. Baker, once a protege of senators including Lyndon Johnson, was convicted in 1965 of evading taxes and stealing funds meant for campaign use.

Kent State University's two year program in Elyna is set to end, with nursing education instruction to continue for at least one more year at Elyria Memorial Hospital. A joint statement by Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor Dr John J.
