Charles Parker Named Governor By Elyria Moose

The 1952 Red Cross Fund Campaign total in the Elyria Chapter progresses toward the 35355 goal. Reports show 33794.04 raised to date, 1561 short of goal, with 25027 turned in to the Chapter office and the rest tied to ongoing campaigns and payroll deductions. Hospital Addition Near Completion Adds 58 Beds

Elyria Memorial Hospital nears completion on a new wing after early delays. The wing, housing surgery X ray delivery nursery and office space, will provide 58 new beds and trigger interior renovations of the old building afterward.

Scaffolding hides the Washington Avenue Church of Christ as the new building nears completion. The exterior is nearly finished with windows ready and the roof largely in place except for the old residence portion delayed by steel strike conditions in Cleveland. The steeple roof remains to be added. Inside, fellowship hall work nears completion with plastering to start soon and floor laying after. Easter services shift to Ely School auditorium with Sunday school at 9 30 am and main service at 10 45 am.

Five Injured In Cleveland Street Auto Collision

Five people were injured in a head on crash on Cleveland street. Driver David L. Shick and passenger Ronald Marsh from Elyria were hospitalized. Betty Hurd suffered a broken nose and facial lacerations. Shick faced a charge of losing control and posted bond for court.

Three Gas Station Burglaries Reported Sunday

Three service stations reported burglaries within minutes Sunday morning. Cantel Service at 355 East Bridge Street saw a broken rear window used to enter. two tires valued at 44 dollars and 2.50 from a desk were taken. Shell Service at Pasadena Avenue and Cleveland Street lost a tire and six cigarette cartons. door glass broken and entry from inside. Standard Oil at Ridge Street and East Bridge Street had a rear window broken but no entry.

Republic Steel plants in Elyria stay open until strike call

More than 400 workers at Republic Steel Corp two Elyria plants continue operations awaiting strike outcome. Plant leaders say orderly shutdowns can occur within hours once a strike is called. Nationwide, 5,000 to 6,000 Republic workers have been laid off as production declines ahead of the strike set to begin Wednesday at 12:01 a.m.

Five Hurt In Route 113 Two‑Car Crash East Of Amherst

Five persons injured in a two car collision about a mile east of the South Amherst corporate limits on Highway 113 at 5 o'clock Sunday. Charles Foss 72 of Spencerville suffered a fractured knee cap and bruised shoulder. Others include Alice Young 17 Elyria Dick Wash 18 Elyria Mrs Emma Foss Spencerville and Mrs Parks 38 Cleveland. All were treated at Amherst Hospital.

Valuable Dog Reported Stolen From Car

John Egan of Route 113 Elyria reports to the sheriff that his white West Highland white terrier named Katie, a three year old female valued at 300 dollars, was stolen from his car while he was in the Bohemian Tavern Saturday night. The dog was chained to the front seat and disappeared at about 11:45 pm.
