Jobless claims surge to 1998 high in new week
Washington AP reports initial unemployment claims rose to 383000 for the week ending March 41 the highest since July 4 1998. The four week moving average climbed to 377500 as economists weigh March payrolls amid ongoing weak growth and possible Fed rate cuts.

Mattel to close last US toy factory in Murray Ky
Mattel will shutter its 980 employee Murray Kentucky plant, the last US toy factory, moving production to Mexico as part of a company wide restructuring. The Fisher-Price plant opened in 1973 and Mattel acquired it in 1993. layoffs begin in June. Seven US distribution centers remain.
