An eighth grade classmate of Scheneman and two other youths were swimming at the Cambridge Courts Apartments when lifeguard Karen Delodge called a pool break. Scheneman was pulled from four foot water his condition uncertain after CPR. His mother was treated for shock. the scene prompted an emergency response and investigation.

Elyria police report no major clues in the hit-skip that killed 61 year old Stanislaw Trela near the Midway Mall overpass in Lorain. Trela, released an hour earlier from the Lorain County jail after a 30 day probation violation sentence, had been arrested March 2 for intoxication. Evidence including clothing and paint fragments have been sent to the Bureau of Criminal Identification in London, Ohio, as investigators seek the driver who fled.
The Lorain incident details Stanislaw Trela who was released by the Lorain County Sheriff Vernon M. Smith with warnings that released prisoners are on their own for transportation. Judge John Kolena said the court is not responsible for transportation after release. Lt William Solomon spoke with Trela minutes before a fatal accident. Trela did not seek or receive a ride. Autopsy found no alcohol. he had 45 cents, a sum previously reported missing.
