In Vermilion a group of 14 citizens alleged a junk yard run by Edward Mittelstaedt on Darrow Road violates township zoning rules. The meeting drew members from Township Trustees and the zoning board with Assistant Erie County Prosecutor David McClure noting a legal hang up and promising to review the case. The 1957 township ordinance allows junk yards only in industrial zones, yet the site lies in an agricultural area.
