Elyria students shine at Mohican science day in Ashland
Thirteen Elyria students were named district winners at Ashland College and will join 56 district winners at the state science fair in Columbus. Walter Baron of Elyria District Catholic High School is Outstanding Biological Science Student and plans to study medicine at St. Louis University. Linda Freshwater of Elyria High is Outstanding Physical Science Student and aims for a medical career, pre med at Wooster College. Elyria High teacher Richard Riddle notes about 400 projects were entered district wide with 30 to 40 schools represented. state entries are limited to grades 9 through 12.

Johnson asks Congress for postal rate hike and pay raises
President Johnson asked Congress for postal rate increases totaling 800 million dollars and a three step pay raise totaling about 2.5 billion for federal employees and armed forces. Fire kills eight Cornell students and a faculty member
A pre dawn blaze at the Cornell Residential Club dormitory in Ithaca New York killed eight students and one faculty member. About 12 others were injured with four students hospitalized in satisfactory condition. The 15 year old brick building housed 71 people at the time.
