Outbreaks between Hindu and Moslem communities in Calcutta kill fifty and injure about six hundred as martial law governs the city. British troops patrol with machine guns while Easter Sunday violence includes street fighting arson and temple and mosque burnings.
The Miami river near Troy bridge will be dragged for new evidence in the Troy murder case once water recedes. Prosecutor L B Starvey said Nesbitt confessed to killing his wife but cited temporary insanity as motive while investigators pursue an axe and missing silver vase. Nesbitt faces first degree murder or manslaughter charges with potential reduction and possible punishment details referenced.
A wireless operated aerial torpedo with a winged design and a radius exceeding several miles is reported to have been acquired by the British government. Mention is made of Captain Allen J. Roberts, an Australian, connected to the torpedo project.
The first open hearings on Prohibition since the Volstead Act begin with Gen. Lincoln C. Andrews calling for more agents and state cooperation to enforce liquor laws. The Ninth apenate District Court of Appeals convened in room 2 with Judge Win Pardee Ak ron presiding and Judge Washburn, Elvira, and Judge Ross W. Funk as associated. Eighteen cases on the docket will take days to hear. first is Charles Mestraw v Edgar Wolloway on error, followed by G A Persons et al v Bank of Knobel. The case W. K. Boyd v Henry A. Beck et al. will be on for hearing tomorrow.
Toledo residents Arthur Suzor 27 and two companions vanished when a Thursday storm struck near Amhertzburg Ontario. Parts of their boat were found along the Canadian shore but no bodies recovered and their names remain to be identified.
Harvey Haver a 40 year old Newcomerstown mail carrier faces murder charges in the December death of his wife. A jury selection begins in common pleas court in New Philadelphia with trial set to start Wednesday.
In Cleveland Anil 6 Pa trolman Fed Tiewey donated a pint and a half of his blood to 17 year old Sanborn at Oxley Tome hospital. The boy did not undergo an operation and did not rally as doctors reported. His mother appealed for volunteers to give blood. In Lima William Shat 46 of Lakeview died after accidentally grabbing a live wire at a substation causing fatal electrocution.
In Washington on April 9 Rep Barbour California led a push to force floor action on census based reapportionment after the census committee paused legislation. Barbour warned Rep Tilson Connecticut that he would seek a discharge petition to override the panel and bring the issue to a vote though most lawmakers signaled opposition and the committee had tabled all reapportionment bills.
A Chinese mob attacked the American Baptist Mission Hospital at Wa-chow. Stones were hurled through windows, narrowly missing staff members, many Americans. Staff escaped through a side door and found refuge aboard a nearby American gunboat.
A federal grand jury in Cleveland returned a true bill charging Josiah Kirby and nine others with conspiring to corruptly influence jurors in federal trials. The probe centers on alleged tampering connected to the Neveland Discount Company case and juror obstruction.
Betty Lee Dellihar, a 21 year old Englewood hospital student, was missing since Wednesday. She ended up in South Clark Street station cells held on shoplifting charges, resisting police and social workers efforts to establish her true identity. Her arrest implicated Dr Titessdler and Englewood hospital staff after letters from Rim were found.
Carlos Lyman 11 died from injuries after being struck by a car driven by William Stiles of Warren on the Warren Sharon road yesterday. Authorities say the boy ran into the path of the automobile and was fatally struck. Stiles faced investigation into the accident.
A 17 year old girl, Lillian Jones, was blinded after a party involving liquor. Marie Belarto, a delinquent connected to the group, and her father Vanceut and Mrs Whyyva Parte were detained on liquor law and delinquency charges. Police found Jones on a street and learned she had drunk liquor at the home of Mrs. Porter where seizures and arrests followed.
Topeka Kansas April 5 Former Governor Jonathan M M Davis filed a $5,000,000 damages suit against the Kansas City Journal Test The suit follows his and his party being acquitted Saturday of conspiracy charges in a pardon sit.
Gerald Chapman’s bid to stay execution is denied by the Connecticut board of pardons. The panel rules unanimously he must hang for the murder of Policeman James Skelly in New Britain. A subsequent report notes the session timing and remarks by attorney Frederick J. Groehl pleading innocence.
New York police arrest 25 year old Pete Adams alias Hossein in connection with the murder of patrolman Charles I Reilly during a hold up. Detectives followed a blood trail from the gutter to a tenement where Adams, wounded, was found. Adams, an ex convict, identified as the two gun man, faces murder charges.
Lorain fireman who disappeared was found wandering in the road by a passerby who notified local authorities. He was taken to St Joseph's hospital after suffering a head injury in a June 1926 fire incident, marking a second lapse of memory in his history.

Mrs. Lottie Sadler of Bloomsdale Ohio suffered a broken collar bone severe bruises and cuts when an automobile driven by L R Dewey 1475 East Bist Street Hast Cleveland ran her down at Twelfth Street and Middle Avenue Dewey swerved to avoid her but struck the curb and carried on Mrs Sadler was taken to Memorial hospital by witnesses Henry Stolzenberg and Russell Lucas.
