Reds seize two more South Viet bases in north
South Vietnamese forces lost two bases in the northern province as U S air and naval forces hit the North Vietnamese invasion. The northern commander said the incursion near the DMZ was halted after five days, while the navy abandoned its base at the mouth of the Cua Viet River after heavy attacks. Fire Base Anne near Quang Tri reportedly fell, bringing total bases lost to fourteen since the invasion began last Thursday. U S destroyers shelled the river area as amphibious tanks attempted crossing. Lt Gen Hoang Xuan Lam leads Saigon’s northern forces.
