Balloonist Brenton Aims Fourth Atlantic Crossing
Francis Brenton, the British balloonist, failed to cross the Atlantic from Las Palmas, landing yards from the start after a tug miscue. He survived soaking and vowed a fourth attempt, while earlier attempts by another man ended in disaster. In Warsaw, nine more Polish officials were purged amid student unrest, including Josef Kutin removed as deputy to the Foreign Trade Minister for allegedly shielding subordinates labeled traitors.
