4-H Boys Grow Corn At Profit Across States
CHICAGO April 4 State champions in the national 4-H corn growing contest last year reduced an average of 71 bushels per acre at a cost of 22 cents a bushel. Results of the project, the first of its kind, are announced by the National Committee on 4-H Club Work, in cooperation with agricultural colleges. The committee says the results are flattering for members and leaders since seven states took part, showing many state champions came from areas outside the regular corn belt. The aim was to show low cost production and broad knowledge of crop culture, with Midwest state champions averaging 18 1-3 cents per bushel.
