Elyria once hosted many Lake Shore railroad office workers commuting to Cleveland. The daily round trips on the Plug and Bob schedules enabled most to stay at home nights. Notable personnel included J. W. Carey chief passenger agent and long-time traveler Tom Seward, with numerous engineers, firemen, conductors, clerks, and freight officials among the group.
