Urban gardens bloom around Columbus church
Old Kirst Presbyterian in Columbus built its 1907 church on the near east side with 650 members. Now a small Sunday turnout spurs a Four Seasons City Farms Project turning vacant lots into organic gardens with tomatoes, kale, peppers, and more. Seed money began in 2002, aided by grants including Scotts Miracle-Gro, and proceeds fund the effort while some plots feed church members and local shelters.
