Doctors' education blamed for Lorain hospital costs debate
The Greater Cleveland Hospital Association says doctor training adds to nationwide hospital costs but in Lorain County education has little impact since no residency programs exist. Labor costs raise local bills, as wages for nurses and staff run about 14 percent above average, said Elyria Memorial’s Donald Taylor. Non-labor costs also up 14 percent per a 1987 American Hospital Association analysis, contributing to higher expenses alongside malpractice insurance and building costs.
