Ohio lawmakers propose changes to regulate savings and loans

In Columbus, Sen. Richard Finan and Rep. Robert Hickey will introduce identical bills to reform Ohio S&L oversight after Home State Savings Bank collapse. The plan adds regulator flexibility, increases director and auditor responsibility, and reorganizes the Commerce Department to four sections with deputy directors.

Oberlin professor named top Ohio teacher for 19 colleges

Oberlin biology professor Richard Levin, teaching since 1968, heads the department with the heaviest load and teaches over 400 students this year. He is among 19 Ohio college and university educators cited by the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Ohio for teaching excellence. The honorees were recognized at a Columbus reception. Meanwhile, a King Jr memorial dinner is planned in Oberlin with panelists from psychology, education, civil rights and public service.
