President Eisenhower rejected reports that he plans to resign and pass control to Vice President Richard Nixon. He spoke at a crowded news conference denying any intent to quit the presidency when world conditions permit.
President Eisenhower told a news conference he has ordered Secret Service drivers never to exceed the speed limit. He said his White House cars will not speed again after a fast ride to Gettysburg, and Montgomery County police said reporters followed the motorcade but observed no improper acts.
Tornado warnings extended through mid morning as Texas and Oklahoma report at least 15 dead and 214 injured. Dallas suffers nine dead and extensive damage along a 21 mile path. hospitals overflow as residents describe homes destroyed and families left homeless.
London trial timeline shifts as Dr. John Bodkin Adams refuses to testify in his own defense. The defense rests after ruling on jury duties, with the Crown required to prove deliberate poisoning of a wealthy widow in 1950. Three men from Lorain and Elyria were killed when their vehicle was struck by a Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive at an unprotected West Lake Street crossing in Ravenna. The victims, all officials of Thew Shovel Co. Lorain, were Charles Thomas Carson 30 of Elyria Frank Laskay 41 of Lorain and Herman A Speck 32 of Lorain.
A derailed diesel inspecting train struck a northbound station wagon on West Lake Street in Ravenna killing three men inside the 1956 Chevrolet. The victims, all locals, were identified as Laskay Speck and Carson. two others were trapped in the truck as the engine halted 500 feet away.
Israeli officials report large security forces moving toward the Jordan border to pursue Fedayeen operatives after a border ambush. Reports describe a 20 minute clash, casualties among newsmen, and political tension between Israel and Jordan amid regional turmoil.
In Bay Village Ohio Norman Landers 23 pushed a stalled Greyhound from Lorain to Cleveland. After about 1000 yards the bus hit a curb and a tree. Landers found Ritenour missing from the wheel and in the station men’s room.
