Leesville area notes show a formation meeting for the new Board of Trade with 155 members signed for 10535 dollars. The gathering at Rialto and the restoration committee will discuss the new board, membership drive, and officer selection.
Mrs. Geraldine Welsh heads a housing bureau for the Republican national convention in Cleveland in June. Her office, two months before the event, is flooded with room reservations from delegates.
Mrs G Storer aged 73 died Thursday morning at 10 20 in Pome 116 Eastern Heights She is survived by Edith their wife and eight grandchildren and one sister The service will be Saturday at 10 from 116 Eastern Heights and 2 from the church burial at lawn cemetery Reverend Burner Mapes of Fields will conduct.
At a VFW meeting last night in the G A R hall Post 84 initiated Carl Taylor undertaker Virgil Jasper commander of a local American Legion post and addressed by Major Murbach. The post planned to present a Lost Lion film and invited its church to hold a memorial service as members enjoyed refreshments. Fewer than fifty attended as plans were made for another meeting on April 16.
An unidentified woman jumped in front of a moving train at Struthers Stop near New Castle and died instantly. The incident occurred on April 3 as authorities investigated the fatal accident.
Canton, Ohio mayor Charles C Curtis is suspended for 30 days on charges of misfeasance in office. Governor Danahey ordered the suspension after affidavits alleged lax enforcement, liquor and gambling sales, and bribery involving police. A joint hearing with Curtis and his brother is set for April 22.
Sheriff issues four warnings to dog owners who have not secured licenses. On April 15 the dog catcher will begin rounds, and unregistered dogs may be arrested and euthanized. Owners are warned they cannot object if their pet is seized.
The Toledo death toll from poison alcohol rose to nineteen by noon with three more in critical condition at Municipal hospital. Victims identified include Frank Johnson James Carter and Grover Cookall of Toledo. Manslaughter charges against Meyer Selzman and two clerks were deferred until coroner Henzler completes hearings.
Dr. Rockwood the Cleveland health commissioner says a proposed Elyria public swimming pool can be sanitary with proper water treatment and daily testing. The plan includes chlorination and water changes, no bathing fees for children, a small suit-rental charge, and cash or check subscriptions to fund construction.
The maple sugar season is largely a failure this year with a late start and scarce sap runs. A handful of sugar bushes operated in Pittsfield Wellington LaGrange and Eaton townships yielding limited quantities of first run syrup sold at 25 cents per gallon. In Chicago Russell Scott 21 confessed to a July last night loop drug store holdup in which clerk Joseph Manrer 21 was killed. His brother Robert Scott and two girls are linked. Robert fled toward the Canadian border. In St Louis detectives misfired, killing George Wasley Barnett 20 during near end holdups. In Columbus depression is blamed for the death of 79 year old John Bartlett found hanged in a shed at Grove City.
In Lorain County Mrs Alice Hall fights a question of puerperal insanity related to the killing of her infant. Doctors for both sides testified on her mental state as the murder trial nears its end with a jury to hear closing arguments.
In Morgantown two patients died when a blaze swept a wing of Broad Oaks sanitarium. Mrs Hamilton and Mrs Garns were recovered from the ruins and officials fear two or three others perished.
The obituary notes the death of an 82 year old former Elyrian who died at the Carmen home in Berea after two months illness. Survived by son Row Date of Foster Seine and another son Elmer of Cleveland, plus brothers James and John of Calioa. Funeral services set for Sunday at 2 00 PM at the Carmen home with burial in Berea cemetery. The Wisconsin primary results show Senator Robert La Follette leading over President Coolidge for the Republican delegation and Smith of New York ahead of William G McAdoo for the Democratic delegates based on additional returns.
The Vincent night school finished with a banquet after two evening weekly sessions since November. Parents praised teachers for their tireless, unpaid work. bouquets decorated tables as Mr King introduced Mr G J Matchellison who gave an engaging address. Teachers honored included Miss Jane McGuire, Mrs. R. J. Hardy, Miss Cope, Miss Effie H. Hersell, and Max R. King.
