Election issue tests Murray Ridge budget after tax renewal

Five years after voters renewed a property tax levy for the Murray Ridge Center in Lorain County, state budget cuts continue to erode funding by about 3 million annually. Reimbursements for taxes on tangible personal property have fallen by 400000 yearly from 2011 to 2013, forcing the center to tighten operations and rely on school district support and technology upgrades. A proposed replacement would raise annual funds to roughly 10.58 million, at a cost of about 11.56 more per 100000 home.

Public opinion on trade mixes love and skepticism. A study by Robert Lawrence and Lawrence Edwards argues that trade’s benefits exceed its costs as productivity rises and prices fall, while manufacturing declines reflect global trends and policy factors rather than offshore shifts alone.
