Lorain County Regional Airport officials moved to develop the field as a general aviation facility. At a long meeting the regional airport authority formally buried the super-airport concept that had sparked county controversy.
The 34th president Dwight D. Eisenhower was buried in Abilene Kansas with full military honors after a three day state funeral. A 21 gun salute and three rifle volleys accompanied the lowering of the casket into a vault beside his former son. The procession moved through his boyhood town as dignitaries including Vice President Nixon watched. The service was relayed to crowds outside the chapel where the burial prayers were spoken.
