Four Hurt In Four Car Route 10 Crash Near Fields Corners
A four car collision on Route 10 about a quarter mile west of Fields Corners at 7 30 p m yesterday injured four people, three seriously. Mrs. George Fortune 61 of Columbia Station suffered four fractured ribs and Mrs Harris Fortune 26 had a fractured right arm. Hazel Hoftyzer of Olmsted Falls had undetermined injuries. The Fortunes and three Fortune children plus Loretta Sweet rode with George Fortune when his car side swiped a machine driven by John Luttmer of Cleveland and his daughter. Fortune’s car then crashed head on into a car driven by Miss Hoftyzer. Deputies Paul Chapman and Samuel Provenza said Olive Nichols’ car crashed into the wrecked vehicles after leaving the scene, but Nichols had departed before officers arrived. The Fortunes’ party were taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital. Hoftyzer to Berea Hospital. A guard rail was torn down on Route 20 by Gerald Kellar of Oberlin. Police also noted a collision on Cleveland and Olive streets between a truck driven by Harold Rodgers of Vermont and a Kumler of Ford Road. Rodgers said he was trying to start his windshield wiper and did not see Kumler’s car.
