Wellington seeks 860000 in block grant funds for housing

Wellington officials plan to apply for 460000 in Community Development Block Grant funds this year for housing rehabilitation and may seek an additional 400000 under another program. The move was announced at a Monday public hearing attended by about a dozen residents. Paul Krutko, hired to assist Wellington, said the village appears likely to receive such grants. Residents asked about economic development funds, which Krutko said could be available under a separate program. The Small Cities Block Grant program targets cities of 10 000 or more and those under 16 000 residents. Krutko runs a similar program in Grafton, noting that Grafton residents have qualified for 5 percent interest loans over the past year.
