Lorain police say a 17 year old driver led a high speed escape after a hit and run involving a Pontiac and a Blazer. On Henderson Street and Elyria Avenue the Pontiac struck a three car pileup on the high level bridge. Shaun Riley 17 of Belle Avenue and two passengers Larry Kehler and Jeff Kay 17 died. Seven others were injured including two 18 year olds in the Riley car. A witness said the Riley car was traveling 70 to 75 mph. Police found blue paint matching Riley’s on the damaged Blazer.
Elyria Jaycees, a 63 member group, voted unanimously to admit women. Three women have joined and six to eight more expected, with local leaders noting a shift toward a mixed and singles oriented Jaycees in coming years. Victoria Baldauf of Ohio Jaycees Women calls state level merging progressing while locals chose inclusion over full merger. A film about the Amish draws a fall crowd to Obertin theater.
Avon Lake High School filled with quiet mourning as 250 seniors faced absences for funerals of Shaun Riley, Jeffrey Kay, and Larry Kehler killed when their car collided with a truck on the Central High Level Bridge in Lorain. Teachers arranged substitutes while Principal Robert Walker noted 42 days remain before graduation. at least one English teacher said the entire school is a funeral home.
A funeral Mass was held for Shaun Riley Jeffrey Kay and Larry Kehler at St Joseph Church. Deasy athletic director called him a fine player. Coaching staff attended the funeral. Tracy Fuller of 33243 Redwood planned to attend out of respect for the boys. Almost all of the senior class was out.

Suspended educator Donald Marshall seeks a hearing before the Sheffield-Sheffield Lake Board of Education to determine his job status. Marshall, 46, was suspended without pay March 21 amid accusations of sexual improprieties with former student Chad Breeden, now a 13 year old college freshman, and potential charges involve other former students. The board has not set a date for the closed hearing as Marshall remains in treatment at St. Joseph Hospital. The Lorain County Grand Jury will review the charges against Marshall and related allegations, while prosecutors have not disclosed specific charges.
