Morale dips at Oberlin FAA despite high safety standards
Eight months after the Oberlin strike, only half as many controllers manage 85 percent of prestrike traffic. Four hundred walked out in July. now 195 controllers with 40 supervisors handle the workload. Most say poststrike unity faded as six day weeks persist and vacation stays at one week. FAA inaction noted and surveys show mixed rehiring views while safety remains a focus.

Reagan at a glance reflects a wide news conference
President Reagan opposes an immediate nuclear arms freeze but backs curbs to curb the arms race. He notes U.S. and allies may cut credit to Poland and the Soviet Union yet leaves room for improved ties if the Polish crisis eases.
