Memories of Elyria Girl Scout Troops and Camp Crag
The article recalls Elyria Girl Scout history starting in 1927 with a single troop that split in 1932 into Troops One and Two. Leaders included Miss Charlotte Kershaw and Mrs Ruth Overdeer, with Doris Jane Barber among early members. Troops met at First Congregational Church and Church of Christ, enjoyed camping near Hinckley, and held Mother Daughter events in 1929. Camp Crag near Port Clinton hosted many activities with hikes, water sports, and community performances. Later generations preserve photos and scrapbooks of these 1930s memories.
