CIO Wins In Election At G M Plant
At the Brown Lipe Chapin Division of General Motors a United Automobile Workers Local 730 was elected as the bargaining agent. 297 of 494 votes were for the U A W C I O representation about 60.1 percent, with 133 for the Metal Trades Division A F of L and 63 for no union. One vote was challenged. Officials praised the high turnout and plan a meeting within ten days to elect a bargaining committee and form a shop committee to handle grievances. Regular elections for permanent officers will occur within 90 days. Headquarters will be in Broad Street offices and other locals will assist. Continued on page 2.

Man and Wife Oberlin grads die in collision
James C. Liggett 45 and wife Elizabeth 45 Oberlin College graduates were killed in a vehicle crash at the 224 and Route 38 intersection in Sullivan Ashland County while en route from Columbus to Oberlin for memorial services and to enroll a twin son in Oberlin. Truck driver C R Jordan 21 of Berwyn Illinois was arrested on a traffic manslaughter charge. The Liggetts, long associated with Oberlin, had planned to enroll son James 17 at Oberlin next fall. Mrs Liggett was a kindergarten teacher after Oberlin graduation.

Affidavit Of Prejudice Filed In Contempt Case
An affidavit of prejudice was filed in common pleas court against Judge Guy B. Findley in the Les Hubbard case. Hubbard, 37, of Avon, is jailed since March 15 on a contempt charge for failing to pay $700 in arrears for his three daughters. A motion to release him as illegally detained was disclosed today. Hubbard was divorced from Evelyn on Sept 21 1945 and ordered to pay $100 monthly if he provided a home or $130 if he did not. The court found total arrears of $1,298. he has been paying $91 monthly.
