Telegraph On Exhibit Original Wheatstone Telegraph Apparatus
In a London lecture room at Kings College Strand the original Wheatstone telegraph apparatus, made by Sir Charles Wheatstone, is shown. The receiver is a diamond shaped instrument with five magnetic needles and the transmitter’s key movement steers two pointers to indicate letters. The first system on the Great Western Railway aided police tracking of a Slough murderer by telegraphing a description to locate a suspect in a first class carriage.
