Federal Tax Cost Pushes Average Family to 1400 a Year
The federal government now costs the typical American family about 1400 annually, with a weekly 27 per family rate. By next June 30 the total reaches 59.5 billion, about 32 billion for defense and 27 billion for nondefense. The civilian federal payroll tops 2,060,400, costing roughly 7 billion in pay, while nondefense spending includes 961 million for rivers and harbors and 1066 million to manage agricultural markets. Publicity, travel, and vehicle costs add hundreds of millions, and lawmakers question trimming nondefense programs as tax and spending rise.
