Law enforcement stance on new act sparks split opinions
Attorney General McGrath plans a special unit in the Justice Department to prosecute under the new law and seeks funds for a larger staff, though exact headcount remains unclear. Some officials expect selective enforcement, testing a dozen or so “front” groups and the Communist party, while others warn of constitutional challenges and lengthy hearings. The Communist party urged defiance, Progressive leaders called the law unconstitutional, and the American Legion praised Congress for a strong stand against perceived enemies.

Commissioner Favors Region Traffic Survey
Traffic Commissioner C L Deer wester urged Canton to hire a private firm to compile a traffic survey report for three years ago. The plan, potentially combined with Massillon and Stark County data, could cost $32,000 with Canton paying $18,000 and Massillon and the county $7,000 each. Council likely to act tonight on approving the $18,000 expenditure. Deerwester opposed a separate bypass survey, saying it would risk duplicating findings and noting Canton's streets lack bypass suitability. State officials said the reports could influence a northern super highway to Cleveland and possible Route 30 relocation.
