American Lutheran Church Moves Toward Lutheran Merger Talks
The American Lutheran Church opened the way for a merger of more than 1.5 million members with the Evangelical and United Evangelical Lutheran Churches. A nine member joint committee will negotiate for up to two years, with potential expansion to include Augustana and Lutheran Free Church. A common confession was adopted to bridge doctrinal disputes.
