Ohio Turnpike plans proceed despite court challenge

Ohio Turnpike Commission chairman James W. Shacknessy said the toll road project will go forward without awaiting Supreme Court ruling on the law. State Auditor Joseph T. Ferguson has refused to approve $55,000 in engineering vouchers. Attorney General Herbert S. Duffy will sue to compel payment to test the law’s constitutionality. Surveys place the 235 mile turnpike from south of Youngstown toward the Indiana line within a one mile wide corridor. Financing would come from toll revenue bonds.
