Cat drinks only faucet water and bats it around

Sooty, a one year old black cat, refuses pond or bowl water and only drinks running faucet water from the Frenz family's kitchen sink. He bats the water and ends up wet, especially his tail, while his owner wonders how this odd habit started.

No Accord Within Sight On 10th Day

Detroit May 14 AP The federal government was asked by union officials to intervene in the 10 day Ford strike after another peace parley failed. UAW President Walter Reuther urged Cyrus S. Ching to sit in on negotiations to report facts and assign responsibility for lack of progress. About 106,000 Ford production workers idle from the walkout. Ford rejected union speedup proposals while offering counterproposals, insisting arbitration and stressing production standards to avoid feather bedding and safety risks.

Blunders Cause Most Traffic Accidents In Canton

OTTO J. HAGER notes that everyday drivers from factory workers to teens cause crashes through carelessness. Police report Canton sees about 85 injuries weekly from 85 crashes, with 15 injured, while county roads average 10 casualties weekly. Drivers ignore stop signs and signals, speed, or pull from parked spots, risking lives and property.

Pittsburgh May 14 AP The CIO United Steel Workers formally asks for a fourth round wage boost for 706,000 workers via letters to 835 steel firms. The union seeks unspecified wage increases plus social benefits including pensions and says it wants to negotiate.

Seven year old Shirley Huffman shines in Stark marble finals

The Canton Stark County marble finals saw Shirley Huffman of Jackson School become the youngest finalist with six straight wins. Emma Miller of Hartville joined as girl finalist. two boys, Glenn Shaner of Sandyville and David Wilson of Waco, also reached finals. Matches were held at the National Guard Armory with rings built by Tom McCoy and Canton recreation staff, under supervision of Clarence Rich.

Truck Fumes Take Life of Canton Man 51

A Friday night fishing trip at Wills Creek Dam near Coshocton ended in tragedy when Harley C. Wagner 51 of Canton and Frank Curtis 50 of Canton were found unconscious in a truck cab with the engine running. Wagner was dead and Curtis was hospitalized in fair condition after regaining consciousness. Wagner a long time Canton resident and World War I veteran had worked with a carnival. survivors include his widow and two stepdaughters, a mother and a sister. Funeral services are planned in Warner Tuesday morning.

Canton teachers seek $200 extra salary boost

Preschool Physicals Scheduled Wednesday

More children entering first grade at six Canton schools will attend the third set of free preschool physical examinations on Wednesday at Clarendon and Cedar schools. New students at Harter Clarendon and St Joseph will be examined at Clarendon School from 8:30 a.m. Deber Baxter and Cedar students report to Cedar School from 12:45 p.m. The final two clinics are set for the following Wednesday. Attendance is voluntary but urged to detect treatable defects before school starts.

Clay Will Get U S Welcome
