Steel Output Falls Slightly
Cleveland, May 9 AP The Steel magazine reports steelmaking operations slipped to 97 percent of capacity last week while production remains booming and demand sagging. It notes vast tonnage moves into existing consuming channels and steady raw material supplies with pig iron and coke improving. Scrap prices show a bottoming trend, with traders unsure if further declines will occur unless pig iron prices fall.
