Murder stories to curb violence, says Dr Wertham
Dr Frederic Wertham, head of two psychiatric clinics, argues murder tales revealing a killer’s mindset can prevent future slayings. He cites tests that show sanity, social causes, and risk signs, urging public disclosure of psychiatric findings to spotlight poverty, neglect, and prejudice as factors. He warns society lacks guilt about murders, with a high rate of escape and “perfect crimes.” He also notes early detection and treatment could stop some would be killers.
