Communist Plot Aims to Overtake U.S. by 1930s Methods

Federal court testimony outlines a strategy by which fewer than 100,000 activists could cripple the United States. FBI agents and a former Daily Worker editor describe a two-pronged plan: sow hatred and unrest among minorities and workers, while secretly placing activists in key transportation and industrial sectors to sabotage and disrupt unions. The aim is to slow production, halt military materiel, and create conditions for a Soviet invasion, echoing 1930s French Nazi collaboration fears.

Southern Presbyterians Stay In Federal Council After Clash

The Southern Presbyterian Church rejected a bid to withdraw from the Federal Council of Churches, defending its stance as non leftist. The assembly, meeting in Montreat, named its first general council and set a 4 million dollar goal for 1950 51, while endorsing greater cooperation with the Northern Presbyterian Church and planning to reform church agencies. Debate touched on union with the North, but topics on racial segregation were not raised in the withdrawal discussion.
