A 13 year old Amish boy Menno J. Coblentz Jr. died after his bicycle collided with a truck turning into a dairy farm lane on Daniel road near Hartville. The crash, which occurred Monday at 6 p.m., is Stark County’s 21st traffic fatality of the year. The driver Lawrence S. Young 16, of Hartville said he pulled aside but the boy struck the truck’s front fender and possibly hit a side mirror. The body was taken from Mercy Hospital and the scene remains under sheriff’s investigation. Also injured was James R. Pollock 19 whose dump truck overturned on Route 62 leaving him with possible rib fractures.
A $50,000,000-a-year numbers game was cracked in a three state crackdown. Eleven arrested, several held on $100,000 bail. The scheme manipulated Cincinnati Clearing House totals to reduce players odds and payoff.

Helen B. Phillips, 58, of 2010 Mahoning rd NE, suffered a fractured left leg when struck by a car driven by Eugene S. Evangelista, 21, of 221 Benson ct NE, at 2nd St and Market Ave NE Monday at 6 55 p m. She was taken to Mercy Hospital.
Oscar J. Horger Jr. age 22 of Avondale was treated at Aultman Hospital for race and head bruises after a 7 40 a m collision with a Nickles Baking Co truck driven by John W. McKnight 22 of New Philadelphia at Rosewood place and Broad avenue Northwest Police arrested McKnight on a top sign charge.
Canton area food dealers and independent retailers plan a large picnic at Meyers Lake Park Wednesday with rides for children from 9 a.m. to noon free. From noon to 8 p.m. rides cost 5 cents each, except for the roller coaster, putt-putt boats and ponies. Henry F. Beaudry announces. The American Legion band will play a free Moonlight Gardens concert at 8 p.m., followed by a fireworks display to close the program.
