U.S. Ore Carrier Venore Sunk in Atlantic Sighting
The ore carrier Venore owned by Ore Steamship Co. was torpedoed and sunk off the Atlantic coast early Saturday. Twenty one survivors were landed at Norfolk. 22 missing. Built in 1921 at Bethlehem Sparrows Point, the 550 foot vessel sent distress calls from 12:47 a.m. to 1:22 a.m. The eight ship attacked off the American coast since Jan. 14, this one was the seventh sunk. Survivors were later rescued.
